Families Unite on Family Day – September 22, 2008
In today’s fast-paced society, dining together as a family isn’t always a priority. To bring attention to this evolving trend, The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University created Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with Your ChildrenTM in 2001.
CASA's research repeatedly finds that the more children eat dinner with their families the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs. Dinnertime conversations create healthy family relationships and keep parents involved in their children’s lives while giving them insight into the challenges their kids face everyday. Family Day is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in September.

This year’s Family Day is September 22nd. Promote Family Day near your meat case during the month of September to raise awareness of this important holiday. Run specials on beef in the days approaching and use signage with messages such as “Beef Brings Families Closer” or “Beef Is What's For Dinner on Family Day” to encourage your customers to celebrate this important day. By stretching the promotion through September, as school starts and your customers develop new routines, you can encourage your customers to make family dinners a regular occurrence and help boost your sales all year long.
Media partners TV LAND and Nick at Nite’s Family Table: Share More than Meals join with CASA and other celebrities and partners to encourage Americans to have dinner with their loved ones. In 2006 and 2007, the promotion of Family Day resulted in a two year total of more than 1.7 million people pledging to eat with their family on Family Day. The President, 49 governors and more than 550 mayors and county executives all proclaimed Family Day in 2007.
Promoting family meals on September 22nd will help your customers realize that having dinner together should be a year-round priority, as a simple, effective way to reduce youth substance abuse and raise healthier children.
