On-Pack Nutrition Labeling
The most effective way to educate your customers about beef’s powerful protein punch is with on-pack labeling. When nutrition facts panels are on-pack, your customers always have the information where they need it, when they need it.
Retailers such as Marsh and Ukrop's have learned that implementing an on-pack nutrition labeling program is good for business. For many years, the beef industry has worked with these and other retailers to develop, implement and then gather results from an on-pack nutrition labeling program. Beef checkoff funding has also been used for focus groups and on-line studies to gather even more consumer feedback. Visit the Nutrition Research section to view a brief synopsis of each study or download further information.
Want to set up your own program? Follow these steps to get the ball rolling:
Step 1: Refer to the On-Pack Nutrition Labeling Implementation Guide for everything you need to know to get your program off the ground.
Step 2: Check out the searchable Protein Database for On-Pack Nutrition Labeling, where you'll find the data you need to create your own on-pack nutrition labels.
Step 3: Determine your messages. When talking to your customers about beef nutrition, it's important that you use messaging that has been proven to resonate with consumers. Refer to the Guide to Beef Nutrition Messages for a complete list of nutrition messages. Also included are suggestions regarding where to most effectively use those messages.
Step 4: Order Nutrition POS or request customizable Nutrition POS templates to help you spread the word to your customers. To request customizable templates, contact us. Customer handouts are also available for your use.
Step 5: Educate your associates; teach them the ins and outs of your new on-pack nutrition labeling program. Use the Sample Training Manual as your guide. Be sure to let the rest of the store, including any dietitians on staff, know about the change that is about to transform the meat case. Ask the dietitian to help educate customers during your launch.
Step 6: Launch the program! Spread the word in your ads, on your Web site, through POS and your newly- trained associates.
