Nutrient Database for Fresh Meat and Poultry Product Labeling

Use this tool to access the correct nutrient data needed to create labels, posters and point-of-sale materials for all fresh beef, veal, pork, lamb and chicken sold at retail. Developed to serve as a resource for complying with mandatory labeling requirements, all data is derived from USDA's Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 25, 2012. Data for both raw and cooked products are offered when available. If the nutrient data is not listed, it is currently not available from USDA.

To remain compliant with FSIS regulations, do not remove raw product from your poster unless you also remove the cooked product. The regulations do not allow cooked data on the basis of visible fat trimmed without including data on the product as it is packaged, including all fat trim.

Nutrient Database - How To Guide Close Help
To start your search:
  • Select the species and subsequent categories from options provided in the drop down menus. Keep in mind - the more options you select, the more limited your search results.
  • You do not have to select an option for each category. When you choose sufficient parameters to limit the options to less than 50, all options available in USDA’s Nutrient Database for Standard Reference will be displayed.
  • The search results are instant, so they will change as you add or remove parameters.
  • To start over, select the reset search option.
To view the nutrition data:
  • Select the specific cut name.
  • You can then export the sample label and nutrient data to a PDF.
To view nutritional information in the form of a poster:
  • Click on the in the "Poster" column. Selected items will then be listed in the table on the "Nutrition Poster Generator"
  • You can remove any individual items by clicking on the "X".
  • Once you have added all the cuts you wish to list in a poster to be displayed at the meat case, select
  • The poster can be viewed or saved for future reference. The PDF files are designed for a 11X17 size poster or smaller.
  • To start over, select the button. Note: This will also remove any logo you uploaded and you will need to re-upload.
To customize your poster with a store/company logo:
  • Select to locate the image file on your computer. Note: Only jpeg files can be used at this time.
  • Next, select to display the logo on your poster.
