Sendik’s Wins 2009 Retail Beef Backer® Award in Independent Category

The Beef Checkoff Program announced Sendik’s Food Markets as the winner of the 2009 Retail Beef Backer Award in the independent category for their commitment to outstanding beef marketing and merchandising programs.

Sendik’s Food Markets has been the source of the finest quality meats for four generations. Their mission is to “provide their customers with the best grocery shopping experience period.” Sendik’s has eight stores located in Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin.  

“We are very proud to have received a 2009 Retail Beef Backer Award,” said Kevin Kelly, Director of Meat & Seafood at Sendik’s. “We look forward to tying into beef checkoff-funded programs again in the next year to drive beef sales in our stores.”

Sendik’s increased beef demand through their 2009 promotions by:

  • Participating in many beef checkoff-funded programs and promotions including the Summer Grilling and Holiday Roast programs.
  • Introducing chuck roll cuts and beef value cuts.
  • Utilizing the Recipes & Photography section to get recipes for their weekly circular and advertising.
  • Promoting Father’s Day in 2009 with a special promotion where future shoppers were asked to write, “Why my dad deserves steak?” One dad from each store received four Tallgrass Beef New York Strip Steaks for Father’s Day Weekend.
  • Continuing to promote their well-known wide variety of lean ground beef offerings and their 15 varieties of gourmet burgers.
  • Successfully launching many beef cuts including Beef Shoulder Top Blade Steak, Beef Chuck Eye Country-Style Ribs Boneless, cuts from the Clod Heart, Hanger Steaks and Beef Chuck Short Ribs with the support of media advertising and daily in-store sampling.
